1Opinion of the Court

SELYA, Circuit Judge.

This appeal tests the limits of a federal district court’s authority to promulgate local rules. The court below upheld a rule constraining the issuance of subpoenas seeking client-related information from lawyers in criminal cases. Because we find that the rule falls outside the permissible scope of local rulemaking authority, we reverse.
