Background
This case is now before the Court on plaintiffs’ Motion for Reasonable Attorney’s Fees and Costs under 42 U.S.C. § 1988. This Establishment Clause case has a long history in this Court. Plaintiffs, an organization and residents and taxpayers of Grand Rapids, Michigan, filed the complaint in the underlying action in August 1980. The complaint sought declaration that the “shared time” and “community education” programs of the Grand Rapids School District violated the Establishment Clause.
