HINES, Justice.

Freddie Lee Davis appeals his convictions for malice murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery in connection with the deaths of Bernice Thomas and James Newsome. For the reasons that follow, we reverse.

Construed to support the verdicts, the evidence showed that Thomas was Davis’s sister. On the morning of June 14, 2000, Thomas’s body was discovered in the Quitman, Georgia residence of Newsome, her boyfriend; Newsome was found alive, but died later due to complications of blunt force trauma to the head, which was also the cause of Thomas’s death.
