STERNBERG, Judge.

In this custody dispute the husband appeals an order denying his request to convert a one-year award of temporary custody of a child into a permanent award of custody. We reverse.

The marriage of the parties was dissolved in 1977. They had been married for three years and had two children, a 2⅛ year old boy and a 1½ year old girl. The wife was represented by counsel in the dissolution proceedings; the husband was not, despite verbal and written suggestions from the wife’s attorney that he should have counsel.
