PLAGER, Circuit Judge.
Pursuant to the provisions of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, 1 the Amendolas filed a petition in the Court of Federal Claims 2 for compensation for an alleged vaccine-related injury to their son, Christopher. Since the vaccine was administered in 1978, the matter falls under the special rules provided in the Act for injuries which occur prior to the Act’s effective date of October 1, 1988.
