In the year 1877, John W. Hoffman, who was the sheriff of Columbia county, Pennsylvania, held in his hands a writ of fieri facias, or in other words, an execution, in favor of Thomas C. Bitter, and against Barney Weiss'and *219L. Weiss, under which execution he, the sheriff, levied upon certain property as the property of the defendants in the execution.
