The respondent brought an action in the Circuit Court for the county of Multnomah, against the appellant, to recover the sum of $3,000 and interest, alleged to be due upon a promissory note executed by the appellant and Louise Pater, his wife, to Louis Parmentier, in his life-time. The note was given April 2, 1883. The said Louis Parmentier died September 30, 1884, by suicide, and the respondent, who was his wife and was left his widow, was duly appointed administratrix of his estate.
