In January, 1864, defendant made the acquaintance of plaintiff, at the house of her father, in Franklin County, Tennessee. He came from Paducah, in Kentucky, and settled in Franklin County, where he owned a large, real and personal estate. He was a married man, but left his wife at Paducah. Plaintiff graduated at the Winchester Female Academy, in 1849 or 1850. She was poor, but of good character and respectable family.
