Plaintiff alleges that he wrongfully was denied long-term disability benefits by Unum Life Insurance Company of America (“Unum”) in violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (“ERISA”), 29 U.S.C. § 1001 et seq. The *222matter now is before the Court following a bench trial on a stipulated record.1
