A grand jury indicted Defendant George Allen Mason, Jr. (“Mason”), alleging that he “willfully caused bodily injury and, through the use of a dangerous weapon, attempted to cause bodily injury to D.B., who is gay, because of D.B.’s actual and perceived sexual orientation,” in violation of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, 18 U.S.C. § 249(a)(2).
