The plaintiff, unsuccessful in this products liability action, appeals from an order awarding as costs the defendants’ expert witness fees ($13,305.54), deposition costs ($2,826.09), and other costs, such as trial transcripts and appellate brief costs,2 amounting in the aggregate to *452$18,837.08.3 These were awarded as ordinary costs under Mass.R.Civ.P. 54(d) and (e), as amended, 382 Mass. 821 and 829 (1980), and Mass.R.A.P. 26(c) and (d), 365 Mass. 873 (1974), not as penalty costs under G.
