There is no genuine issue as to the facts we consider material to the decision in this case. They can be briefly stated.
The plaintiff, a resident of Brooklyn, N. Y., brought a civil action in the court below against the defendant, a Panamanian corporation, to recover for personal injuries, allegedly caused by a defective cargo winch, which he sustained while working as a longshoreman on the defendant’s steamship Platano at a time when it was tied up to a pier in New York Harbor.
