At a term of the Court of General Sessions for Greenville County, in July, 1890, the three defendants were tried upon an indictment charging William L. Howard and William M. Howard with the murder of Benjamin Ross, and William H. Moon with being accessory before the fact to said murder. The defendants, William M. Howard and William H. Moon, were acquitted and the defendant, William L. Howard, was convicted of murder, and the sentence of death duly pronounced. William L.
