We have held in Reed v. Stockmeyer, 34 U. S. App. 727, 20 C. C. A. 381, 74 Fed. 186, that it is the duty of the master to use ordinary care to furnish appliances reasonably safe for the use of servants, — such as, with reasonable care on his part, can be used without danger save such as is incident to the business in which such instrumentalities are employed; that it is also the duty of the master to use like care to provide a safe place in which the laborer may perform his work, and to keep it in a suitable condition.
