KENNARD, J.

A jury convicted defendant Michael Joseph Wader of the first degree murder of Maxine Brown. (Pen. Code, § 187; all further statutory references are to this code unless otherwise indicated.) The jury made a special circumstance finding of robbery-murder (§ 190.2, subd. (a)(17)(i)), and found to be true an allegation that defendant had used a firearm in committing the crime. (§ 12022.5.)
