WARDLAW, Circuit Judge:

Harry Sassounian appeals the denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus. A jury convicted Sassounian of murdering Kemal Arikan, the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey. The jury also found true the special circumstance of killing because of nationality or national origin, and Sassounian was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
