Defendant, Charles Harre, was convicted by a jury of armed violence in May of 1990 and was sentenced to 9V2 years’ imprisonment. Defendant was also ordered to pay a street value fine of $49,533.50 in connection with his earlier plea of guilty to unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 56x/2, par. 705(e)), the predicate offense for the armed violence conviction, as well as being sentenced to an additional five years’ imprisonment.
