This is an action to recover damages for the conversion of personal property to which the plaintiff claimed title under an execution sale. The defense was a general denial.

On the trial below the plaintiff claimed that the property described in the complaint was formerly the property of the United States Stamping Company, a manufacturing corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York, and carrying on business in Portland in this State; that in November, 1888, one Samuel H.
