This case is before the Court on direct appeal from the Chancery Court of Davidson County, pursuant to T.C.A. § 65-230. Its origin was the filing on October 17, 1969, by Ned R. McWherter, doing business as Volunteer Trucking Company, hereinafter “Volunteer”, of an application with the Tennessee Public Service Commission, seeking a certificate of convenience and necessity authorizing the transport of general commodities, with certain exceptions, between Nashville and all points in Weakley and Obin Counties, and corresponding interstate authority.
