The battle which this case provoked was joined on 14 September 1984 when Clarice Williams filed a complaint in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. She sought the sale of a certain piece of real property in lieu of partition and requested that the residue of the proceeds after the payment of expenses be divided among the owners of the property according to their respective shares.
