When Carolyn Brooks and Robert Piela were divorced in 1996, the divorce judgment required Robert to pay $650 per week in child support to Carolyn, the primary custodian of their five minor children.1 Five years later, Carolyn filed a complaint for modification alleging that Robert’s income had increased, that their son’s needs required his enrollment in a private boarding school, and that “the needs of the children have increased significantly.” The parties reached agreement regarding contribution to the private school costs of their thirteen year old son, but could not resolve Carolyn’s…
