This is an action for libel brought by appellee against The Houston Printing Company, the proprietor and publisher of a daily newspaper—The Houston Post, published in the city of Houston, Texas.
Plaintiff alleged that he was at the time of suit and has been for two years past the sheriff of Collin County, has long been a citizen of the county, of good reputation, and has at all times commanded the confidence and respect of his neighbors and acquaintances, has never been charged with any offense against the laws of the State, and more especially with the offense of…
