Defendant Frank Edwards was convicted of armed robbery without a firearm and vehicular invasion and sentenced to eight years in prison. On appeal, defendant questions the constitutionality of section 5 — 4—3 (a — 5) of the Unified Code of Corrections (the Code) (730 ILCS 5/5 — 4—3(a—5) (West 2002)), which requires convicted felons to submit specimens of blood to the Illinois Department of State Police for inclusion in both a state and a national DNA database.
