In Berger v Weber, 411 Mich 1; 303 NW2d 424 (1981), this Court recognized a cause of action on the part of a child for loss of parental society and companionship when a parent is negligently injured. Today, we are asked to decide the related question whether the common law of this state shall recognize a parent’s cause of action for loss of a child’s society and companionship when the child has been negligently injured.
