COLLEY, Justice.

This is a personal injury suit. Plaintiff/appellee Inocente Zuniga (Zuniga), an employee of Big M Construction Company (Big M), suffered severe physical injuries when a steel girder fell from a flat-bed trailer onto appellee during the course of appellee’s employment with Big M.

Appellee brought this common-law negligence suit against defendants/appellants W.B. Hinton Drilling Company and Hinton Production Company (Hinton). The case was tried to a jury whose verdict formed the basis for the trial court’s judgment awarding appellee money damages in excess of one million dollars.…
