This action was brought to recover damages for injuries received by the plaintiff while at work in the defendants’ slate quarry.

1. In the course of the trial a witness, Staples, testified that a cable or wire rope, which fell and injured the plaintiff, was' unsound in certain respects. He was then asked by the plaintiff’s counsel whether or not the condition that he had described was observable, one that might be observed by looking at it.
