Following a jury trial, defendant Ronald Richardson was convicted under the Criminal Code of 1961 of home invasion (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 12—11(a)(2)) and aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 12—4(b)(1)).
