This is an action of contract upon a promissory note. At the trial, the plaintiff contended that the consideration for the note was money, but the defendants contended that it was part of an agreement between the plaintiff, who was the tenant, and the defendants, who were his lessors, whereby the tenant promised to improve the demised premises by an expenditure of not less than $2,800, and the defendants promised to give to the plaintiff the note.
