The action is one to recover the declared value of the contents of a trunk. It appears, without substantial dispute, that on May 23, 1922, the plaintiff, a traveling merchant, purchased of the defendant railroad company a ticket entitling him to passage from Washington to Baltimore, at the same time checking with the baggage agent of defendant at Washington his trunk containing property allegedly valued at $12,530.70. The plaintiff caused the contents of the trunk to be valued at $2,500 and paid the defendant the sum of $2.40 for excess value of said trunk and contents. The trunk contained…
