These companion cases arise from a protracted dispute between Interfinancial Midtown, Inc. (Interfinancial), the owner of some Atlanta property, and Choate Construction Company (Choate), which did construction work on that property and then filed a lien and a suit for breach of contract when it was not paid. Though the parties entered into a settlement agreement, they were soon at odds on its meaning.
