Defendant-appellant George Ted Phillips was convicted by a jury on December 20, 1979 of two counts of kidnapping in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1201(a) 1 and § 2, 2 one count of interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2312 3 and § 2, and one count of transporting a woman across state lines for immoral purposes in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2421 (Mann Act) 4 and § 2.
