Plaintiffs-Appellants, brothers Derek and Brian Patterson, brought this civil rights action alleging that five City of Akron police officers, their superiors, and the City of Akron violated their constitutional rights through the use of excessive force. On the night of May 27-28, 2006, during Memorial Day weekend, the brothers were patrons at a bar in downtown Akron, Ohio.
