Respondent, Jerrod K. Smith (Smith), filed a writ of habeas corpus to the magistrate division of the district court, claiming that his due process rights were violated in his parole revocation proceedings. Smith asserted that he had been denied the right to obtain and present witnesses at the parole violation hearing due to insufficient notice of the hearing and due to the denial of his right to compel witnesses to attend the hearing.
