Statement of the Case

On February 22, 1979, plaintiff A. J. Setting Company, Inc. (Setting), a subcontractor, filed a first amended complaint alleging that defendant Skipper & Company (Skipper), a general contractor, owed a balance of $24,613.64 under a labor and materials supply contract executed on April 21, 1977, by the two parties.
