delivered the opinion of the court:

The defendant, Clarence Stone, was convicted of the offense of theft over *150 after a bench trial in the circuit court of Williamson County. Defendant contends that his conviction should be reversed because the State failed to prove ownership of the car allegedly stolen by the defendant. We agree and, therefore, reverse.

The State’s Attorney by information charged that on July 11, 1977, defendant knowingly exerted unauthorized control over the 1967 Ford Fairlane of the complainant, Keith W. Sasek, bearing Illinois license plate number…
