Defendant, Askia Khalil Shabaz,1 was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, a .357 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, in violation of MCL 750.227; MSA 28.424. Following a preliminary examination held in the 36th District Court on July 22, 1982, he was bound over to the Recorder’s Court for the City of Detroit for trial as charged. In October, 1982, an evidentiary hearing was held in the Recorder’s Court upon the defendant’s motion to quash the information or, in the alternative, to suppress the revolver as evidence.2 At the conclusion of the hearing, the court granted the motion to…
