Shawn C. Haynes appeals the judgment of his conviction and sentence in the Circuit Court of Lafayette County for escape from custody, § 575.200,1 after a bench *618trial for which he was sentenced, as a prior and persistent offender, §§ 558.016 and 557.036, RSMo Supp.1996, to five years imprisonment in the Missouri Department of Corrections, to be served consecutively to the sentences he was then serving for two prior forgery convictions.
