The general history, character, and nature of these suits are fully stated in the opinion of the circuit court in U. S. v. Southern Pac. Co., 94 Fed. 427, to which reference is here made. It appears therefrom that three separate, independent suits were instituted by the United States against the Southern Pacific Railroad Company for the purpose of determining the title to certain odd-numbered sections of land within the 20 and 30 mile limits of the grant made by the United States to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company by act of congress of March 3, 1871, which lands…
