Per Curiam :

On the afternoon of March 3, 1920, Bertha Welch, a young married woman, fell in Madison street near the southeast corner of its intersection with State street, in the city of Chicago, and received a severe and permanent injury to her right hip. March 2, 1921, she commenced an action in the circuit court of Cook county against the city of Chicago claiming damages for the injury, which she alleged was due to the negligence of the city in failing to maintain its street in a reasonably safe condition.
