THORNBERRY, Circuit Judge:
This is an appeal from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Appellants, plaintiffs below, were employed as shift workers in appellee’s carbon manufacturing plant in Port Arthur, Texas. During the relevant period (July, 1964 to August, 1965), the workers followed a practice known as “early relief.” This practice had been in effect for over twenty years and had been originated by the employees themselves.
