ROGERS, Circuit Judge.

Defendant James Holland, Jr. appeals the district court’s denial of his petitions for writ of habeas corpus under 28 U.S.C. § 2254, alleging that his confession — which served as critical state’s evidence at his trials — had been given involuntarily and had been obtained in violation of his Fifth Amendment right to counsel. On January 6, 2006, while Holland was in custody for a parole violation, Detective Mark Neumann interviewed Holland about a series of criminal sexual conduct cases and assaults that had occurred in the area.
