This appeal raises an important question regarding the presence and scope of the attorney-client privilege. The defendant Carson Manufacturing Company (“Carson”) seeks to discover six documents generated by Michael I. Shamos, a member of the Bar of Pennsylvania who holds a Ph.D. in computer science. Carson claims that the documents are discoverable because Shamos was acting as a consultant, rather than an attorney, for plaintiff Montgomery County (“County”).
