OPINION OF THE COURT

SULLIVAN, Judge:

Appellant was tried by a special court-martial composed of a military judge alone at Clark Air Base, Republic of the Philippines, during October 1985. Contrary to his pleas, he was found guilty of absence without leave (20 days) and willful disobedience of an order from a noncommissioned officer, in violation of Articles 86 and 91, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 886 and 891, respectively. He was sentenced to a bad-conduct discharge, 4 months’ confinement, forfeiture of $400 pay per month for 6 months, and reduction of airman basic. The…
