FERREN, Associate Judge:

This appeal presents questions of first impression concerning this court’s review of criminal convictions in cases where some portion of the trial transcript is lost, stolen, or otherwise unavailable. 1

A jury found appellant guilty of carrying a pistol without a license. D.C.Code § 22-3204 (1973). After a notice of appeal had been filed, the court reporter’s notes of appellant’s two-day trial were lost.
