Gary Griffin defaulted on the federally-insured student loan a proprietary vocational school in Washington, D.C., gave him to pay for classes it offered in radio and television repair. As he told the school’s collection agency, Griffin believes he has valid defenses that excuse him from any obligation to his school lender.
