LYNCH, Circuit Judge.

Jack Markarian, against whom appellee Aetna Casualty and Surety Company has a civil judgment, appeals from the entry of a writ of ne exeat against him. The writ, which is essentially a form of equitable bail, was issued ex parte in the District of Massachusetts in February 1995. It prohibits Markarian, an American citizen who is employed and lives with his family in Massachusetts, from leaving the state or removing any of his assets from the state without the court’s permission.
