This suit was coihmeneed in the court of common pleas for the city and county of New York, and was removed into this court. The complaint was put in in the state court. It alleges that the defendant is and was, at the times thereinafter mentioned, a corporation formed under the laws of France, and owner of the vessels thereinafter named; that the defendant, by vessels from a foreign port, brought to the port of New York alien passengers, for whom a tax has not heretofore been paid by the vessels, on the dates, from the ports, and to the number stated in the complaint, being…
