We understand that it has become the settled

practice in this state that relief against a judgment rendered against a party upon the unauthorized appearance of an attorney in his name is to be sought on a direct application to the court by motion in the action in which the unauthorized appearance was entered. This was the remedy adopted in the leading case of Denton v. Noyes, 6 Johns., 297, and in every subsequent case of a like character in this state which has come to our notice. Grazebrook v.
