*542 ¶ 1 Defendant, Bernon L. Howery, appeals the denial of his pro se motion for leave to file a successive postconviction petition and motion for discovery. We affirm.

¶ 2 I. BACKGROUND

¶ 3 Defendant is currently serving a sentence of life imprisonment after a jury found him guilty of four counts of first degree murder ( Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, ¶ 9-1(a)(2) ), four counts of felony murder ( id. ¶ 9-1(a)(3) ), and one count of aggravated arson ( id. ¶ 20-1.1).
