WINTER, Circuit Judge:

This is an appeal by Herman T. Dove from an order by the district court dismissing his suit to recover damages against his former employer under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq. Dismissal was ordered because of the failure of plaintiff’s counsel to attend a pretrial scheduling conference. Because we believe that this “case presents an instance for the imposition of lesser sanctions than the ultimate penalty of dismissal,” Bush v. United States Postal Service, 496 F.2d 42, 45 (4 Cir. 1974), we reverse and remand with instructions to…
